According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, troopers responded shortly before 8:00 p.m. Tuesday to the intersection of Howard Street and Simuel Road after receiving reports of a person in the roadway. Upon arrival, they discovered Jose had been fatally struck while walking along Howard Street. Authorities confirmed the vehicle involved fled the scene, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Jose was a student at Dorman High School, part of the Cavalier family that now mourns him deeply. Spartanburg School District Six shared a heartfelt statement expressing sorrow over the loss, remembering Jose for his kindness, meaningful friendships, and the promise he carried.

He was more than a headline. Jose was a beloved son, a loyal friend, and a compassionate classmate whose gentle spirit left a lasting impact. His smile, his quiet encouragement, and his ability to connect with others made a difference in everyday moments.
