The Glen Carbon community mourns the loss of Alma “Ali” Mae Summers, 51, who passed away on February 17, 2026, at Alton Memorial Hospital. Ali’s life was a testament to family devotion, public service, and the power of generosity and connection. She leaves behind her husband of 18 years, Micah Summers, and their sons, Andrew and Benjamin, who were the center of her world.
Ali’s love for the outdoors and travel was a hallmark of her life. From hiking the Colorado mountains of her birth city to exploring Hawaii, Mexico, and Rome, she celebrated every opportunity to make memories with those she loved. Her zest for adventure was always accompanied by thoughtfulness and care, creating experiences that her family will cherish forever.
Professionally, Ali’s career reflected her passion for justice. After earning degrees in Human Development, Social Work, and Law, she clerked for U.S. District Judge David R. Herndon and spent ten years as a state court prosecutor in St. Clair and Madison counties. In 2012, she joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois, eventually serving as Chief of the Criminal Division and Assistant United States Attorney. Her colleagues describe her as compassionate, principled, and a tireless advocate for families and communities.
Ali was also known for her warmth, generosity, and love of life—she enjoyed music, dancing, cooking, and bringing friends and family together. Her presence enriched all around her.
She is survived by her parents, Mary and Dennis Tolliver; sister Cyra and brother-in-law Robert Lohman; in-laws Kevan and Diane Summers; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Rachel and Michael Wein; three nephews; and many extended family members and friends.
